The Pumpkins Are Here!

My sister's birthday is Sept. 11. Each year, she asks for and receives the same thing for a birthday gift: pumpkins! This year, we were concerned because the cool spring and summer slowed pumpkin growth. Many of you probably have experienced this in your own gardens.

We weren't sure until early this week that we'd have pumpkins for Tracy's birthday. And we weren't sure we'd have pumpkins to unload for the area's Young Professionals. The YPs have come out to help us prepare the patch for the last four years. Like Tracy, they want to unload pumpkins.

Our first load of pumpkins arrived late Thursday afternoon. Along with it came spaghetti, buttercup, acorn and carnival squash, and wee-b-little and jack-b-little pumpkins. There are two new varieties of pumpkins and squash this year: white acorn squash that taste similar to a baked potato, and pick-a-pie pumpkins that are about the same size as a sugar pumpkin.

It's almost like Christmas when the trucks and produce start arriving!

The next two days will be load and after load after load of pumpkins as we prepare for opening day on Sunday.

We'll see you soon at Papa's!
