The evening was on the chilly side as the sun was behind the big cottonwoods and the breeze was picking up. The young man and woman walked into the patch just before 7 pm, clearly dressed for a nice dinner out and not for picking pumpkins. Nonetheless, our groom-to-be had a plan and so far, it was working beautifully.
He and his girlfriend were celebrating their second anniversary together and Papa's held a special place for them. They wondered around a bit and made their way to the upper deck with a lovely view of the patch, along with some strategically placed jack-o-lanterns.
The young man guided his bride-to-be over to the far side of the deck to get a clear view of the Infamous Bale Maze. When the couple turned around the jack-o-lanterns gave the first hint of surprise. Each pumpkin held a piece of the message:
Will
U
B
MINE?
The groom-to-be took a tiny pumpkin out of his pocket, got down on one knee, presented the pumpkin to his girlfriend and asked, "Will you marry me?" Around the stem of the tiny pumpkin was a lovely engagement ring. She said YES!
The pumpkin patch gang clapped for them when they left shortly thereafter. They were nestled close together as young couples in love should be, and they had their arms full of jack-o-lanterns that carried a very special message.
