Tuesday night I was helping guests "check out." A gentleman and his wife walked up with a full wagon -- pumpkins of various sizes, gourds, decorative corn and squash. We began visiting as I totaled up their purchases.
The toal was $56, which I told them, and then said, "Let's take $3 off and call it good at $53."
The gentleman took three, $20 bills out of his wallet, handed them to me and said, "Keep the change, and thanks for the good things you do for our community."
"Thank you" didn't seem like enough. I'd intended to be the one offering the 'little extra' with a discount. In turn, this man offered Papa's Pumpkin Patch the 'extra' both with his $7 donation and his kind words.
Time and again these are the "happy accidents" that happen at Papa's. We are so grateful for the family-friendly environment our supporters and friends help us create. Most of all we are grateful to everyone who gives us a deal -- a great deal more than we can repay.
See you soon,
Papa
